Snow on the Isle of Arran

After a very cold night we awoke to a brilliant bright day and decided to walk over the top of the island of Cumbrae (off the west coast of Scotland)
Welcome To The Isle Of Cumbrae
welcome to Cumbrae
as we crested the hill from our holiday cottage we could see snow on the Isle of Arran beyond
looking beyond the Cathedral of the Isles tower across the Firth of Clyde to the snow tipped mountains
The cathedral is the smallest in Britain with the nave seating just 80 people.
looking up the hill at the grand tower and spire
and its cloisters at the rear
the Lady Chapel with Triptych of Madonna and Child above the alter (Donald Swan, Millport)
looking down the nave to the alter, screen and pulpit
and towards the rear with the font on the right
Standing on Great Cumbrae Island looking at Little Cumbrae Island and Arran in the background
looking down on Cumbrae's only town - Millport and beyond to west coast of Scotland
looking over the tip of the Isle of Bute to Arran
and Largs marina on the mainland across the Firth of Clyde
Bute and the Kintyre Peninsula in the background
Bute and the peninsula from a slightly different angle

looking north towards Dunoon
The Glaid Stone (Trig Point) - the highest point on Cumbrae
Psalm 104 v 24 - a plaque near the Glaid Stone
former mineral well
someone is hoping for some luck at the well
we continued to walk down the hill to our holiday cottage - that's it on the left seen from the back.

  1. I was born in Kildonan on Arran, so it was nice to see the snow topping on Goat Fell. You also have a distant view of Ailsa Craig in the photo's as well.
